I want to start this week's blog with a note on homework. My current assigned homework is a couple daily math problems and 20 minutes of iStation or a reading log. While I plan to continue to the one or two math problems (that your child should be completing with you) I am no longer going to require a certain amount of iStation time nor will I provide a reading log. Since children spend 7+ hours a day at school I think they need their afternoons and evenings to recoup, play, do sports, family time, be read to, etc. If you would like your child to work on iStation or read on their own that is absolutely fine but I won't have a time requirement or be taking note of it. Thanks for your flexibility on this change.
This week we are working on rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. In Reading we are working on creating and answering different types of questions (right there questions, think and search questions, author and me questions, and on my own questions). For Science we will be learning about the Southwestern Native American Tribes and in Language Arts we are continuing to learn about parts of speech. We will also be taking our Reading Inventory test this week to see what our Lexile Scores are :) Be on the lookout for Third Grade t-shirt order forms! Have a great week! Today your children got to sample a variety of fictional books just above their reading level. After "taste testing" 3 to 6 different books they got to choose the one they liked most. That book will be their "Stick With It" book. That means they have to read it from start to finish, no switching books and no giving up on a book. Once they're finished they'll complete a book report.
Hi parents and welcome to my blog! Here I will keep you updated with the goings-on of our class. Thank you so much for sending all those supplies, snacks, and signed papers. We are almost through with getting our room organized and ready to roll. This week, in addition to doing many other things, your students will be learning about place value, narrative writing, parts of a story, and Native Americans.
Please keep checking back for updates! Have a great week! |
