Hi parents! I hope you had a great weekend.
I will make this update short and sweet :) This week we will be learning...addition and subtraction strategies (within 1,000), summarizing stories with Thank You Mr. Falker, types of soil, and writing narratives in sequence using transition words. You probably noticed that we have a t-shirt fundraiser going on. I know it's not ideal because PE just did their Field Day shirt fundraiser and so many of you bought shirts. This shirt that we are now selling is our 3rd grade shirt for spirit days and field trips (each class is getting their own color so we can easily keep track of kids while on Field Trips). Please purchase one for your child if you're able to. They're super cute! Have a great week!

Happy Friday! It's been another great week!
PS Please enjoy the pictures below! Hello parents! We have had another super week :) Your kids are doing great things! In your child's Thursday Folder you will find their first graded quiz. Please check it out and go over it with your child when you find some time. This year there is a strong focus on reading and understanding directions. If your child has any answers on their quiz that are circled that means they did not completely follow the directions and may redo it at home, and return it on Monday for a better grade. I had some of you ask about our spelling words. I use spelling words as a means of teaching unfamiliar vocabulary. This past week we've been working on synonyms of the word SAID. You may have your child practice the words at home if you'd like to but we spend at least ten minutes a day on them at school so it is not a necessity for them to practice at home. Next week we will be working on the same words, and focus more on the meaning than the spelling. If you have not sent in headphones with your child please do so as soon as you can :) Next week we will be working on.. Math: Place Value Addition/Subtraction/One Step Word Problems Reading: Close Reading of Narrative Texts Grammar: Nouns/Pronouns Writing: Writing Small Moments Science/SS: Rocks and MInerals As always, let me know if you have any questions at all. Have a great week! Dearest Parents, I want to start this blog post by telling you how WONDERFUL your children were the first three days of school. They were kind, attentive, respectful and it truly couldn't have gone any better so...thank YOU for obviously being such awesome parents! We spent last week going over rules and procedures and will continue to do so this week as we dive into subject content. Math: place value with one step word problems Science: scientific inquiry Grammar: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs Reading: I will be giving students their Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRA) this week. While I am working individually with students they will be doing a unit study on Patricia Polacco (to get us started on our fiction unit). Writing: To start our narrative unit we will be learning to write about the "small moments" in our lives. This week your child will bring home math homework that will be due on Friday. Their monthly reading log will not be due till August 31st. Please continue to send in any signed papers and thank you for doing such a great job getting those agendas signed every day. I appreciate your support and hope you have a great week! PS Please enjoy the pictures from our "Flashlight Friday"! |
